GemFetch — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-01
GemFetch is a browser extension that saves an AI assistant conversation (or selected page text) as a Markdown file on your computer.
What GemFetch handles
- Page content — when you click the toolbar button, GemFetch reads the text of the page you clicked the button on, to extract the conversation.
- Your API key — a Google AI Studio key you enter in settings.
- Your settings — model, save-folder name, group names, extra instructions, and a short list of recent saves (including the Markdown text of those recent notes, so the Archive button works).
Where it goes
- Stays on your device: API key, settings and the recent-saves list (
chrome.storage.local). Never sent to the author or any third party. - Sent to Google: the scraped page text and your query go to
generativelanguage.googleapis.comusing your key, only to generate the title, synthesis and transcript. Governed by Google's API terms. - Written to disk: the Markdown file is saved, via the browser's download mechanism, into a subfolder of your Downloads folder.
What GemFetch does not do
- No analytics, telemetry, tracking or advertising.
- No remote code loading.
- No developer-operated servers — there is no backend.
- No access to browsing history, other tabs, cookies or passwords.

Open an issue at github.com/alematic/GemFetch, or use the Feedback form on the extension's Settings page — it opens your own email app with a pre-filled message; nothing is sent automatically and no server is involved.
